Merkel pushed for Nordstream 2 and even promised Putin that it would be exempt from any future sanctions and this was in 2015, a full year after Crimea sanctions kicked in.
How well that turned out.
There are 2 easy ways to solve this energy clusterfuck, and first one is the easiest one.
Freeze the prices EU or Europe wide like at 100 euros/Mwh. Thats well above what the actual costs are and will make alot of money anyway to all energy producers.
Doing that they should also decouple gas price from regular electricity prices.
Second one is burn down the whole pretend energy market and charge ppl the cost/transfer of electricity plus 5-10% extra for providers. To have this imaginary market still running is beyond me when the costs far outweigh the benefits. Just burn the fucking thing down.
But there is alot of powerful people making alot of money on this so it aint gonna change. And ordinary Joe is gonna go through the winter paying with his ass thinking there is an actual shortage of electricity.

The thing is the elites don't get fired when politicians do. So there's very little incentive until guillotines stage and even then we live in the highly globalized modern world, they will just shuffle off somewhere else before anything happens.
All I can say is look at the covid response, they actively find it desirable when common person suffers and loses everything. They make big money off of that.
