This is how Sweden Democrat-controlled Sölvesborg Municipality's are saving its elderly: "We ignored their orders and went far beyond FHM's demands"Published 14 May 2020 at 17.12
DOMESTIC. Sölvesborg's elderly homes has had only one corona-infected user sofar. This is after Sölvesborg's "many, hard and early initiatives to reduce the spread of covid-19," as municipal councilor Louise Erixon (SD) puts it on Twitter.
The Sölvesborg council, which is led by the Swedish Democrats, has not blindly listened to the recommendations of the Public Health Authority during the corona crisis, but went their own way. Instead, they have even gone much further then others, reports Kvällsposten.
Already on March 10, visiting bans on elderly housing were introduced, compared with the government's national ban on April 1. Then, on March 23, the library, leisure centers and music school were closed.
And these are decisions that still apply.
Of a total of 1,000 users in elderly care in Sölvesborg municipality, only one has been infected. That person was moved to a special isolation center with a specially trained team, and is now on his way to recovery.
- "We cannot sit in an extraordinary situation and wait for the authorities to land in the same conclusions as we do. We must dare to take the initiative, and we did." says Louise Erixon, chairman of the municipal council, to Kvällsposten.
At the same time, Sölvesborg together with two other municipalities have ordered a large number of mouth guards and other protective equipment from China. This means that all staff within two weeks will "always" wear mouthguards.
After Gotland, the Blekinge Region has the lowest number of coronary cases in the country.
- "Never forget: We politicians have a great responsibility for the decisions we make - but we also have a huge responsibility for the necessary decisions that we do not make," Erixon writes on Twitter.
