Police Officer Taina: "I'm ashamed when I tell a woman to make a report"Many police officers describe the situation within the Swedish police authority as being pure chaos. Emergency policemen can not answer all alarms and investigations are terminated due to staff shortages.
"I feel sorry for the citizens who are out here. Police do not do anything about the crimes. They dismiss a case rather than investigate. It feels ridiculous, says Taina Rosén Vilidu, police officer in Södertälje.
It's about trying to dismiss as many criminal investigations as possible, because there are no staff that can investigate. The situation is shit.
We can spend several hours at work out here. Then the case we worked so hard to get is closed or the criminal is released after a few hours for lack of evidence or being too young or something else minor. It is frightening to think that people can commit crimes and pretty much not get punishment for it now," says Taina Rosén Vilidu.
According to police officers in Stockholm County, they have to juggle the small resources they get from the government in order to cope with the work situation.
"We try to see that the resources in the Stockholm region that is not used are dispersed around to needing sections, but its become even harder after the reorganization. The solution att he moment is to allocate unused resources from other districts from different parts of Stockholm, "says Manne Jönsson, Chief of Crime Investigation in the Stockholm South Police Area.
SVT News Stockholm has asked Minister for Justice and Home Affairs Morgan Johansson for a comment on the police crisis, but he has declined to answer.
