Eddie the Eagle, may kainda plejs |

The Eddie The Eagle Museum is founded by Arthur van Beek, Aukje Dekker and Sieto Noordhoorn For years, the control room of Shell in Amsterdam-Noord was one of the most highly secured places of the Netherlands. Now we are converting this space into the Eddie the Eagle Museum.
Eddie “the Eagle” Edwards was a British ski jumper who became last at the Calgary Olympics in 1988. Years later he is still a symbol for the art of trying. Eddie “the Eagle” Edwards was an anti-hero, a man with unprecedented courage, an adventurer with an excessive nature. These qualities represent the fundamental ideas for a museum where people (big and small) have the space to just like Eddie take an uncontrolled leap into the (cultural) deep. Its a new place in Amsterdam with a slope for known and unknown talent, where art wont be judge on appearance. An ode to the unconventional, a tribute to the one who dares to fail. Eager for the fringes of society Eddie the Eagle Museum unpretentiously tries to change a world of trial and error.
Mission: The Eddie The Eagle Museum operates as an exhibition space, a museum with a collection (either tangible or intangible) and as an independently working artist collective. We give exhibition-parties with which we finance our museum and actions. In this sense we create our independence by doing. We don’t rely on funding, never have to kiss ass, don’t need to restrict or conform ourselves regarding the art market/gallery system. Yet our actions function not against ‘the system’, rather we operate by our own rules Within the system, realizing we make the system. We are not anarchist, not communist we are the doist, the post autistic generation desperately trying to make before killing everything by over-thinking, over-analyzing. Everything is reactionary, we react on what is given and this is a constantly evolving process of point and counterpoint. Do and reflect later. Eventually there will be reacted on what we produced. Anyone can join. |
