There are separate records in the marathon for each.

Why? In mixed race, male pace setters are aloud and they can run the whole way. In women only, only Female pacers are allowed and make it about halfway.

This isn’t because it makes them “artificially faster” it’s to acknowledge the performance difference without a male pacer and give an incentive in womens only races.

Women’s only fields started to give women more of a spotlight instead of being mixed with sub-elite guys."
