"There is some wisdom in having "stuff" rather than money, assuming you have lots of money. There was a time that the U.S. currency was gold, gold coins. Money itself was a thing of value. The government then took all the gold and gave us paper money, gold certificates (easier to carry). You could exchange these for gold. Coins changed from gold to silver. The government called the Gold Certificates in and gave us Silver Certificates. No more gold, but you still got a precious metal. Meanwhile, silver coins went to a cheaper metal with a silver coating. The government then took back all the silver certificates and gave us "Federal Reserve Notes." The game was complete. Anything of value was removed from circulation and we were left with funny money."
"Harley Davidson can sell you anything from a cigarette lighter to a g-string for your girlfriend with the Harley logo on it. A friend of mine who owned a Harley dealership several years ago was making more money out of this crap than selling the bikes!"
