Andreas Ammer · FM Einheit - Radio Inferno

Using everything from recordings of the Hindenburg explosions, to Funkadelic and Marcel Duchamp as sound sources, these guys have woven a half-German, half-Italian, half-English narrative filled with chanting and weird looped industrial sounds. What made the CD so important is that it anticipated the not-yet-realized potential for cinematic expression in radio, the idea that perspective and point of view can be established just with sound…

F.M. Einheit, the machinist for Germany’s Einstürzende Neubauten, was a regular collaborator with Andreas Ammer, who adapted the text for this radio-drama-meets-medieval-poetry version of Dante’s “Inferno”. Featuring the vocal talents of Phil Minton, Blixa Bargeld, and BBC broadcaster John Peel, it makes for a surprisingly good listen.
