It was made famous by part time folk musician Hintrikki (Hindrik) Peltoniemi in the 1920-30s. A local folk musician Friiti Ojala learned it from Hintrikki's daughter after Hintrikki passed away. It is not known whom Hintrikki originally learned it from. The tune is originally a part of a Finnish tradition known as "kruunuhäät" or "crown wedding ceremony", but is nowadays often played at funerals."
