sociālais reālisms jeb fotogrāfija kā sociālo apstākļu reportāža ir diskutabla lieta. Īpaši gadījumos, kad, laikam ejot, par apstākļiem liecina tikai rakstīts (banāls) vārds, bet attēli ir kļuvuši vienkārši par skaistiem portretiem, kuros aplūkot dažādos cilvēku fenotipus. Varbūt sociāli vērtīgāk būtu bijis nevis fotografēt, bet adoptēt tos bērnus..
Social realism or the photography depicting social circumstances is a complicated topic, especially if only a written (banal) word testify to those circumstances after some time passes, whereas the photos themselves have become classic portraits showing different phenotypes. Maybe socially more useful would have been to take adopt those children instead of photographing them..

Protams, ka šie nav kāda tēvišķi visžēlīga, tikko dzelzs priekškaru pārkāpuša rietumnieka attēli ar šausminošajiem dzīves apstākļiem Rumānijas bērnunamos. V.Kleina fotogrāfijās bērniem, lai arī tie ir ierāmēti, ir sava balss – pārmaiņu laika garam atbilstoša, utopiska vienlīdzība. Arī reliģiskas atmodas nospiedumi – tiesa, jābrīnās, kas dažam no šiem ne-pieaugušajiem liek vēlēties, lai visi ticētu dievam. Bet, mūsdienās daudz iespaidīgāks šajos attēlos šķiet modes un frizūru šarms (visi pietiekoši vecie, pārskatīt savus fotoalbumus!).
These are no images of the horrible living conditions in Romanian orphanages by a paternalistically empathetic Westerner, traversing the Iron Curtain for the first time. In step with the epic shift in the socio-political environment, V.Kleins' photos propose a sense of utopian equality – the children, despite being framed, have their own voice. The resurgence of religion also has left its imprints – although, one wonders, what is it, that makes some of these adolescents wish for a universal faith in god. From a contemporary perspective, perhaps, the documentation of the fashion and hairdos of the day is the most impressive.
