Examples of Minimalist Landing Pages http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/dyt/~3/zgsdBRk7bF0/ http://designyoutrust.com/?p=438228
Great landing pages all do one thing well – they help the visitor understand what the product is, and help get them excited about it. Sometimes that means the landing page is attention grabbing and bold, and uses loud visuals to show off. But there’s also a trend in having very understated, elegant and tasteful landing pages that showcase the product using a clean, minimal design.
Because the designs are understated, they often help to cut through all the noise compared to their rivals. They appear clean and simple, and they help the visitor understand the product without being distracted by fussy, complicated visuals.

Afterland http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/dyt/~3/FB_elw1LBNI/ http://designyoutrust.com/?p=438233
Afterland is a unique, free-to-play mobile card game in development by Imaginary games based out of San Francisco, CA. What makes this game unique is the beautiful card artwork hand painted by artists Megan Majewski and Elin Johnson whose style walks the line between cute and creepy with a Tim Burtonesque feminine twist. The gameplay will feature a fusion of Japanese style collectible card game (CCG) and a social turn based game much like the popular mobile app Draw Something. So check out their KickStarter to find out how to support this great art/game project after having a look at some of the beautiful artwork. You can view more of the game’s art at Imaginary Game’s Pinterest and the Imaginary Games website

25 Awesome Portrait Photography examples and Tips for beginners http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/dyt/~3/afi6DirIGp4/ http://designyoutrust.com/?p=438243
Natural light: Natural or available light can produce beautiful and flattering portraits, and many photographers prefer its subtlety to flash light. However, there’s an art to controlling it so you get the best results. Try and avoid direct sunlight, because it can create hard and ugly shadows on faces. Working in areas of open shade, try using a relector to bounce light onto your subject. It’s easy, relatively inexpensive and can give your portraits a professional look.

Louis Vuitton windows at Bond Street – London http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/dyt/~3/-x2ljPXMH-k/ http://designyoutrust.com/?p=438366
The Louis Vuitton windows at the Bond Street store manage to compete with the large building they are set in. The brightly coloured and pattered hot air balloons transcend floors in this eye catching display. The design translates down to a smaller scale jewellery display. Floating white mini plinths allow the merchandise maximum stand out.

Stefan Sagmeister‘s “The Happy Show” is still on display at the Institute of Contemporary Art, University of Pennsylvania until August 12, 2012.
Sagmeister not only tests the boundary between art and design, but often transgresses it through his imaginative implementation of typography. The Happy Show, a thematic exhibition of film, print, infographics, sculpture, and interactive installations offers visitors the experience of walking into the designer’s mind as he attempts to increase his happiness via mediation, cognitive therapy, and mood-altering pharmaceuticals.

Unnamed Soundsculpture by Onformative http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/dyt/~3/jczWdBB9fWE/ http://designyoutrust.com/?p=438383
The basic idea of this project by Onformative is built upon the consideration of creating a moving sound sculpture from the recorded motion data of a real person.
For their work, they asked Laura Keil, a Berlin based dancer to interpret a musical piece –Kreukeltape by Machinefabriek – as closely as possible with the movement of her own body. She was recorded by three depth cameras (Kinect), in which the intersection of the images was later put together to a three-dimensional volume (3d point cloud), doing so, they were able to use the collected data throughout the further process.

Speed Chess: 16-Player Respawning Chess Game http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/dyt/~3/qZ6LPkoMLWc/ http://designyoutrust.com/?p=438387 Chess is normally a game about strategy and setting up intricate plays. However, QWOP creator, Bennett Foddy, has released a new kind of chess that is about one thing only: speed. Breaking the traditional rules of chess, this game accommodates 16 simultaneous players and features a respawning mechanism.
Speed Chess is an interactive game played in just minutes by up to 16 players on one board. The only thing that could slow down the game is the players’ ability to quickly enter a command into the SNES controller.
The game starts by having each player move a pawn. If they get captured by an opposing piece, they respawn as one of the leftover pieces. The goal of Speed Chess is to capture the opposing side’s king.

Improve Your Writing Skills – Following These 5 Easy Tricks http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/dyt/~3/O19f8IF82d0/ http://designyoutrust.com/?p=438543 Just as learning is a lifelong process, so is the road to bettering yourself as a writer. Even the most experienced and novice writers still manage to make their writing this year better than it was last year. There’s always an area to improve and tons of advice to be gathered along the way.
#1 Write regularly (whether you want to or not)
If you’re in a freelance position, as many writers are today, then it’s likely that you have the freedom to create your own work schedule. Though this is a blessing in most situations, freedom of this nature can also be a major ingredient for procrastination. And when it comes to writing, the longer you put it off the worse it gets. Going a week, for instance, without writing can be a major blow to your creative spirit, and will very likely create a writer’s block like you’ve never seen.
The remedy? Keep yourself busy with articles or other assignments to ensure that you write on the regular basis. Even if you can’t keep up with a 500 word a day minimum, try to at least push out a paragraph or two, even if its worthless, at least you wrote something.
#2 Use reading to spruce up on your grammar
It goes without saying that good grammar is part of good writing. Whether you self-publish or write for someone else, you have to take the time to ensure that what you create is presentable and worthy of being read.
If you can’t recall all the points made by your English teacher, or dread studying them on your own, a good remedy is to simply read (from educated sources). Reading overall is crucial to all writers, but more specifically if you read from sources that have a reputation for proper grammar and style usage, you’ll give yourself a prime opportunity to pick up on the grammar do’s and don’ts of the language (all without flipping through one page of a grammar textbook).

Raf Simons and Alexander Wang for Mr Porter http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/dyt/~3/FVpqP9uWrwE/ http://designyoutrust.com/?p=438651
Mr Porter has quite made the menswear news the past few weeks. Before the new collections will be debuted at the Men’s Fashion Week’s later this month, the online retailer collaborated with Raf Simons and Alexander Wang for exclusive collections. The Raf Simons collection features a mix of sweats, tees, shorts and bombers all flowered-up with Simon’s vibrant floral print. The just previously released Alexander Wang collection – a mere eight pieces, two of which are tees — is the same simple triumph we’ve come to expect from Alexander Wang. The process to do basics well is anything but basic, and from the fleece-backed crewneck, to the black cropped panel jacket, this capsule demonstrates that point admirably.
