Smooth and velvety, Riga Black Balsam is widely regarded as the king of Latvian liquors and is our latest tipple of choice. Historically a cure (we'll take any excuse), it was invented by a pharmacist in the 18th century and allegedly used to revive the Russian empress Catherine the Great, who fell ill during a visit to Latvia. Produced from natural raw materials, it has hints of linden blossom, birch bud, valerian root, raspberry, bilberry, ginger, nutmeg and black peppercorn. We are enjoying it in a black mojito, on the rocks or as a flavouring for ice cream.
