"Religion today is the biggest problem faced by modern society. What seperates us from other species is our logic and reason. Atheism is more then just the rejection in the belief of god. Atheism does not equal Nihilism. There is room for a spiritual being in an atheistic world view. Atheism is a movement for a more unified world. A world where people don’t kill themselves over an age old doctrine. A world were there is no chosen people. A world were we are more similar then different. And the only true evil comes from ourselves. If we are fighting gods and devils, society has already failed. We have given religion such an untouchable status that it is rude to even debate it. Instead of coming together to find what unites us, we decide to blow each other up based on blind faith. Not everyone wants to blow themselves up over religion, I realize that. But if you don’t see that religion is causing division and war in the world, then you aren’t paying attention. I think it’s an act of extreme hubris to fill unanswered questions with a god that we’ve created in our own image. And in order to see past this kind of thinking, it needs to be rejected. That rejection is atheism. Because Atheism is based on the rejection of an idea and not the proposition of a new one, it’s hard to build a movement around it. You can’t use it to control populations or to galvanize political action. Atheism provides a clean slate, in which to examin the bigger questions of consciousness and meaning."
