LMA Mazo izstāžu sērijas nedaudz šķobīgais konteksts (un apgaismojuma neesamība) rada šaubas – kas tad šeit īsti ir māksla, un kas nav. Pirmais iespaids ir par “smaržu mākslu” – atdalītajā telpā ir izteikts augļu košlājamo gumiju aromāts (vai arī tas no vecās siermaizes). Ieskatoties, pamanāmi nelieli fotoattēli un skaitļu švīkas, kas atzīstami labi iederas izstādes koncepcijā – ja arī līdz galam nepārliecina.

The somewhat wobbly context of this series of exhibitions (and the lack of lighting) make for some uncertainty as to what is part of the exhibition and what isn’t. The first impression is of some kind of “olfactory art” – the separated space is permeated with the flavour of fruit chewing gum (or could it be the rotting sandwich on the desk). On a more careful inspection, one notices tiny photos and scribbles of numbers that fit the concept reasonably well – even if not quite convincingly.

Plejāde ar zināmiem un mazāk zienāmiem gleznotājiem un grafiķiem, kuri ir ilustrējuši grāmatas - oriģināldarbi eksponēti pie sienas. Vitrīnās 20 gados godalgotās grāmatas. Acīmredzot, kad autoram ir dots konkrēts, funkcionāls uzdevums, rezultāts izdodas ievērojami pārliecinošāks, nekā, kad jārada "pašam no sevis". Arī šo daudzo autoru darbi vienā izstādē kaut kā labi sapas kopā.. varbūt šī paša iemesla dēļ.

Original prints and paintings of a bunch of well- as well as lesser known painters and graphic artists who have illustrated books are exhibited on the walls. Awarded books exhibited in the vitrines. Apparently if the artist has a specific, functional task to work on, he or she will present way better output then if left alone. Maybe this is why the exhibition - regardless the numerous artists and works it features - work well together as a totality.
