“Venēcijā bijis es, kniedes redzējis”. Par spīti 3D elementiem un “atrastajiem” Google Maps attēliem, daba pret industriju izrādās pārāk novalkāts motīvs. Ar esošo nepietiek, lai šeit veidotos notikums.

“Been to Venice, saw bolts”. Despite 3-dimensional elements and “found” images from Google Maps, nature-vs-industry turns out to be too worn a subject. What is presented here is insufficient to make this an event.

Attēli ir žilbinoši – teju kāda dzīvesstila reklāma. Vienlaikus, mūsdienu industrijas estētika tiek visnotaļ daudz izmantota fotomākslā. Šķiet, galvenais leģitimācijas rīks šeit ir fotogrāfa pieeja “eksotiskām” vietām (un tai fotomākslā ir senas tradīcijas).

The images are dazzling – almost a lifestyle ad. At the same time, contemporary industrial spaces are fairly widely represented in art photography. The main vehicle of legitimacy here appears to be the photographer’s access to “exotic” spaces (an age-old trick in photo-art).

Teju mizantropiskās ainavas, līdzko tajās parādās cilvēki, kļūst par pietiekoši parastiem eksotisko ceļojumu foto – Padomju sūrā dzīvesstila estētikā. Tas, ka šeit nav izzūdošas ekosistēmas vai margināla dzīvesveida pēdējie vaidi, nav diezko pārsteidzoši. Drīzāk – ka šie pēdējās robežas iekarotāji (arī naftas meklētāji) ir drīzāk īgni un cilvēcīgi: nosaluši.

The misanthropic landscapes – as soon as people enter the frame – become fairly standard exotic trip indices, presented through the lens of the “harsh Soviet lifestyle”. That these images do not represent the desperate moans of disappearing ecosystems and marginal ways-of-life, is hardly surprising. It is considerably more so, that these conquerors of the final frontier (and future oil fields) are rather human, uncomfortable: cold.
