Un atkal - var jau teikt, ka dvako pēc padomju laikiem, kas šobrīd esot senili, bet tas kaut kā nešķiet svarīgi. Aizraujošāka ir meistarība un cimperlīgās tehnikas - pasteļa - pārvaldīšana.

One could claim that these works are a bit too senile, they possess something from the Soviet period, but somehow this objection doesn't seem valid. It is more thrilling to meet with the artistic mastery and the skill of pastel painting.

Plejāde ar zināmiem un mazāk zienāmiem gleznotājiem un grafiķiem, kuri ir ilustrējuši grāmatas - oriģināldarbi eksponēti pie sienas. Vitrīnās 20 gados godalgotās grāmatas. Acīmredzot, kad autoram ir dots konkrēts, funkcionāls uzdevums, rezultāts izdodas ievērojami pārliecinošāks, nekā, kad jārada "pašam no sevis". Arī šo daudzo autoru darbi vienā izstādē kaut kā labi sapas kopā.. varbūt šī paša iemesla dēļ.

Original prints and paintings of a bunch of well- as well as lesser known painters and graphic artists who have illustrated books are exhibited on the walls. Awarded books exhibited in the vitrines. Apparently if the artist has a specific, functional task to work on, he or she will present way better output then if left alone. Maybe this is why the exhibition - regardless the numerous artists and works it features - work well together as a totality.

Droši vien tā ir galerijas Māksla XO kolekcijas izstāde, jo līdz ar neatributētām skulptūrām izstādīti ir arī Tatjanas Krivenkovas darbi - gleznas. Zinot T.Krivenkovas grafikas darbus, lietišķās mākslas apgleznojumus, tajā ļoti labi ierakstās arī gleznas, taču, ja būtu pirmo reizi jāierauga tieši šīs gleznas tieši šādā salikumā, iespaids nebūtu labs.

most probably this is an exhibition from the "Māksla XO" gallery collection. T.Krivenkova's paintings are exhibited together with some unattributed figurines. If one has seen Krivenkova's graphic art works, applied art decors and has some general idea about what it's all about then these works would 'fit' into the big picture quite ok. But if these were the first thing to encounter from T.Krivenkova's oeuvre then the impression might be not too impressive to say the least

L.L.Ozolina may be a good and persistent craftswoman, but the exhibition - lit in neon lights and with new - age type of world music playing in the background - can be pleasing to the readers of "The Mystery" magazine at best. It has nothing to do with art though.

Nedz visas sievietes, nedz visas grūtnieces automātiski ir madonnas, tāpat kā ne visi bērni ir Jēzus un visas ģimenes - svētās. Tieksme pievilkt gleznas pie kādas vienas, deklaratīvas tēmas, nedaudz atsit Nacionālā mākslas muzeja vecišķo tieksmi, bet iespēja redzēt tik daudz ekselentu mākslas darbu izstādēm piemērotās telpās to atsver.

Not all women nor pregnant women are Madonnas by default, not all children are Jesus nor all families - holy ones. The approach to group different works around one declarative theme reminds the old fashioned mannerisms of National Art museum's crew, but the opportunity to see so many high-brow artworks together in a flattering exhibition space compensates it.

Varbūt šos darbus varētu ielikt kaut kādā kotekstā, kurā tas nostrādātu kā postmoderns kičs, vai arī ir iespējams iedomāties kādu ezotēriķu kopienu, kas atpazīst un pieņem kā savus šos estētiskos kodus, taču tas, ka šie darbi ir domāti nopietni un tiek prezentēti nopietni, un, ka konkrētajā formā cenšas liecināt par traģiskiem notikumiem, Eiropas un anglosakšu Rietumu mākslas pasaules kontekstā izskatās kā kluss vājprāts.

Kā arī izsaku nosodījumu LMS vadībai, kas tā vietā, lai strādātu ar LMS mantojumu vai popularizētu šī brīža biedru daiļradi, tērē laiku un vietu šim sviestam.


Maybe these works can be conceptualized in the context of postmodernism/kitsch. Maybe it is possible to imagine an esoterically-oriented fan group who really dig this kind of art. But the fact is that these works and their promoters are dead serious and in the context of European and Western art world their aesthetic/iconographic choices for the supposedly tragic subject-matter appears just lutanic.

Also critical remarks go out to the Latvian Artists union's heads who allow to waste space and time on this shit instead of promoting the LAU's legacy or the contemporary works of their current members.

Normāla izstāde. Nedaudz nepatika it kā moralizējošais tonis par zūdošajām vērtībām (Rietumu kultūras?), bet tā ūdenī mirkstošo grāmatu fotogrāfijas ieved meditatīvā noskaņā par dabiskās un cilvēka roku veidotās vides robežām. Kā parasti - fotokatalogā redzamās fotogrāfijas izsktatās labāk, nekā tās, kas ierāmētas pie sienas (varbūt vaina tajā, kā ir jālieto ķermenis, apskatot šo vienādo materiālu divās atšķirīgās prezentācijas formās)

An avarage exhibition. Slight anthipathy towards the moralizing tone about the 'vanishing values' (of Western culture?), but nevertheless the photos showing books which are emerged in water, allows to meditate on the fragility of border between man made and 'natural' environment.
and again - photographic album leaves a better impression than the exhibited photographies (maybe it's connected with the way a spectator has to use it's body in this process)

Ņemot vērā Kr.Zariņa nepatīkamo personu, kura nomāc vēlmi slavēt; kā arī to, ka šāda gleznieciskā stilistika viengabalaināk padodas veselai plejādei jauno un vidēji jauno mākslinieču - sieviešu, un to, ka pēc 20.gs. II puses feminisma gājiena gleznot plikas tantes vīrieškārtas autoram var būt bīstami (es labāk gribētu, lai Kr.Zariņš to nedarītu), taču ir jāatzīst, ka Kr. Zariņa "Sejas" Mūkusalas mākslas salonā, kā arī šī izstāde liecina, ka autors radošā attīstība ir apmetusi vienu kvalitatīvu spirāles loku augšup.

K.Zarins's nasty persona lessens the desire to praise him. Also there's a number of young and not so young female artists who paint in this manner way more consistent then Zarins does, as well as it's not that simple to paint naked ladies after the 20th century march of feminism (I would rather like him not doing it), but nevertheless K.Zarins' exhibition "Faces" in Mūkusala Art Salon and this particular one testify that the artist has evolved to the next level.

Soviet Latvian designer slash artist Valdis Celms presents his unique design pieces, kinetic sculptures, photographic montages and posters, some of them reconstructed by the author for this exhibition. Wonderful examples and therefore witnesses of cultural phenomena of Soviet period.

Ja nezina nevienu citu A.Lauringsona darbu, tad šī izstāde ir absolūti normāla, parasta laikmetīgās mākslas izstāde tāda, kāds ir mūsdienu mākslas izstāžu meinstrīms. Nedaudz tehnoloģiju, nedaudz uztveres psiholoģijas (fizioloģijas), efemers secinājums et voila!

If this is the first time you see A.Lauringson's works then it's ok to perceive it as normal, avarage contemporary art exhibition, just in line with other mainstream contemporary art exhibitions. A bit of technologies, a bit of psychology (physiology) of perception, ephemeral conclusions et voila!

Viens no autoriem, kura darbus skatoties, kļūst ļoti žēl, ka Latvijas mākslas pasaule ir tik maziņa, jo šis, lūk, ir tas retais gadījums, kam par labu nāktu idejas radikalizējoša, pakausī elpojoša vide.

Putrāms is one of rare authors whose works suffer from narrowness of local art world, his art would definitely gain if the dynamics of environment would push for more radical output.
