Tatjana Krivenkova / galerija Māksla XO / ?

Droši vien tā ir galerijas Māksla XO kolekcijas izstāde, jo līdz ar neatributētām skulptūrām izstādīti ir arī Tatjanas Krivenkovas darbi - gleznas. Zinot T.Krivenkovas grafikas darbus, lietišķās mākslas apgleznojumus, tajā ļoti labi ierakstās arī gleznas, taču, ja būtu pirmo reizi jāierauga tieši šīs gleznas tieši šādā salikumā, iespaids nebūtu labs.

most probably this is an exhibition from the "Māksla XO" gallery collection. T.Krivenkova's paintings are exhibited together with some unattributed figurines. If one has seen Krivenkova's graphic art works, applied art decors and has some general idea about what it's all about then these works would 'fit' into the big picture quite ok. But if these were the first thing to encounter from T.Krivenkova's oeuvre then the impression might be not too impressive to say the least

L.L.Ozoliņai uzteicama amata prasme un neatlaidība, bet kopumā neonā izgaismotā un ņūeidža 'pasaules mūzikas' apskaņotā ekspozīcija var tikt notirgota "Mistēriju" lasošai auditorijai... sakara ar mākslu te nav nekāda.

L.L.Ozolina may be a good and persistent craftswoman, but the exhibition - lit in neon lights and with new - age type of world music playing in the background - can be pleasing to the readers of "The Mystery" magazine at best. It has nothing to do with art though.

Normāla izstāde. Nedaudz nepatika it kā moralizējošais tonis par zūdošajām vērtībām (Rietumu kultūras?), bet tā ūdenī mirkstošo grāmatu fotogrāfijas ieved meditatīvā noskaņā par dabiskās un cilvēka roku veidotās vides robežām. Kā parasti - fotokatalogā redzamās fotogrāfijas izsktatās labāk, nekā tās, kas ierāmētas pie sienas (varbūt vaina tajā, kā ir jālieto ķermenis, apskatot šo vienādo materiālu divās atšķirīgās prezentācijas formās)

An avarage exhibition. Slight anthipathy towards the moralizing tone about the 'vanishing values' (of Western culture?), but nevertheless the photos showing books which are emerged in water, allows to meditate on the fragility of border between man made and 'natural' environment.
and again - photographic album leaves a better impression than the exhibited photographies (maybe it's connected with the way a spectator has to use it's body in this process)

Kristaps Zariņš / Slepenais muzejs / Māksla XO / 28.03.2013 - 23.04.2013

Ņemot vērā Kr.Zariņa nepatīkamo personu, kura nomāc vēlmi slavēt; kā arī to, ka šāda gleznieciskā stilistika viengabalaināk padodas veselai plejādei jauno un vidēji jauno mākslinieču - sieviešu, un to, ka pēc 20.gs. II puses feminisma gājiena gleznot plikas tantes vīrieškārtas autoram var būt bīstami (es labāk gribētu, lai Kr.Zariņš to nedarītu), taču ir jāatzīst, ka Kr. Zariņa "Sejas" Mūkusalas mākslas salonā, kā arī šī izstāde liecina, ka autors radošā attīstība ir apmetusi vienu kvalitatīvu spirāles loku augšup.

K.Zarins's nasty persona lessens the desire to praise him. Also there's a number of young and not so young female artists who paint in this manner way more consistent then Zarins does, as well as it's not that simple to paint naked ladies after the 20th century march of feminism (I would rather like him not doing it), but nevertheless K.Zarins' exhibition "Faces" in Mūkusala Art Salon and this particular one testify that the artist has evolved to the next level.

Padomju Latvijas dizainera/mākslinieka Valda Celma unikālais dizains, kinētiskās skulptūras, fotomontāžas un plakāti, daļa rekonstruēta. Lieliski sava laikmeta fenomeni un līdz ar to tā liecinieki.

Soviet Latvian designer slash artist Valdis Celms presents his unique design pieces, kinetic sculptures, photographic montages and posters, some of them reconstructed by the author for this exhibition. Wonderful examples and therefore witnesses of cultural phenomena of Soviet period.

Pinnomānija. Glezniecība. Rūdolfs Pinnis / LMS galerija / 13.03.2013 - 31.03.2013.

Tas, ka Rūdolfs Pinnis ir padomju perioda glezniecības brīnums, šaubu nav. Tas, ka LMS galerijas telpas nav labas stājmākslu izstādēm, arī šaubīties neliek. Iekārtošanas triks ļoti labi apiet telpas diktētos noteikumus, bravo, bet tas, kopā ar visnotaļ īpatno gleznu atlasi tomēr nerada līdz galam viendabīgu un pārliecinošu mākslas pārdzīvojumu.

There's no doubt that Rudolfs Pinnis is a wonder of Soviet Latvian art. There's no doubt that Latvian artists union's gallery is a lousy place where to exhibit fine art, too, but the installation manner gets around the restrictions. Nevertheless the installation together with a rather weird selection of works doesn't do justice to the R.Pinnis' art.

Ja nezina nevienu citu A.Lauringsona darbu, tad šī izstāde ir absolūti normāla, parasta laikmetīgās mākslas izstāde tāda, kāds ir mūsdienu mākslas izstāžu meinstrīms. Nedaudz tehnoloģiju, nedaudz uztveres psiholoģijas (fizioloģijas), efemers secinājums et voila!

If this is the first time you see A.Lauringson's works then it's ok to perceive it as normal, avarage contemporary art exhibition, just in line with other mainstream contemporary art exhibitions. A bit of technologies, a bit of psychology (physiology) of perception, ephemeral conclusions et voila!

Pieņemot, ka, lai baudītu mākslu, ir nepieciešama distance un konteksts, visas šīs raibās kopizstādes - īpaši fotogrāfiju - ir drausmīgas, jo darbu kopums kļūst par "balto troksni", no kura viens vai otrs atsevišķs darbs tiek pamanīts ļoti haotisku iemeslu dēļ. Būtu izstādījuši labāk 100 autoru albumus, ko piesēst un izšķirstīt.

Distance and context are needed in order to appreciate art fully. All these groups shows which are crammed with one-piece-per-author works are failures by default, because the totality of works becomes sort of a 'white noise' out of which random works draws spectator's attention due to very arbitrary reasons. The organizers should have exhibited 100 photo albums instead..

Kuratoru pienesums, teksti un iekārtojums – viss pakūp, tverot V.Zābera “pirmavotus” un laika elpu, kura joprojām stipra kā Orbit Winterfresh. Pārējais pagaidīs.

The curatorial contribution, texts and selection – all evaporates, grasping at V.Zābers' “primary sources” and the breath of his times, which stays as strong as Orbit Winterfresh. The rest can wait.

Izstādes idejiskais satvars un iekārtojums dara pāri Viļņa Zābera mākslai, kurā ekstātiski saplūst Boisisks jutekliskums ar 1990. gadu postpadomju/mežonīgā kapitālisma brutālismu. Interesanti būtu paurķēties, kāpēc VZ ir tik ļoti fiksēts uz seksu; "Sieviešu mākslas" analīzē bieži lietotā psihoanalītiskā metode ļautu iegūt kādu cilvēcīgāku kopsaucēju par šobrīd esošo vaislīgā mačo mītu..

Exhibition's concept and exposition design doesn't do justice to Vilnis Zābers' art, in which Beuysian sensuality merges with brutality of Post-soviet/wild capitalist 1990s.
It would be interesting to use psychoanalysis to get clear why the author is so fixated on sex and thus maybe get more human-like picture of him and his art as opposed to the now-present myth of the 'fecund macho'

Jaunie darbi (četri audekli un grafikas darbs) – patīkama ironija par dažādām debesīm, kas šeit nav nekas cits kā spogulis masturbējošiem golferiem – Narcisiem. Lielāko daļu izstādes veido drīzāk haotiska un neviendabīga mini-retrospektīva, tomēr arī šeit ir pietiekoši daudz darbu, kuru dēļ gribētos, lai izstāde izskanētu skaļāk.

The new works (four paintings and a print) offer a welcome irony on various heavens that are little more than a mirror for masturbating golfers – Narcissi. Most of the exhibition is a rather haphazard and uneven mini-retrospective, which, nonetheless, contains enough works, for the sake of which, one would hope, this exhibition attracts wider attention.

Nevis Latvijas mākslas vide ir šaura, bet gan perspektīve, kurā tā tiek skatīta, jo aiz uzmanības borta paliek tādi "Putrāma tipa" mākslinieki kā I.Usas, kura ironiskajiem un izteiktā autorstilā gleznotajiem "maģiskā reālisma" darbiem nav ne pienācīga konteksta, nedz augsnes, nedz arī - diemžēl - atzinības.

It's the perspective that is narrow, not the whole artworld of Latvia. Unfortunately this perspective leaves Putrāms-type artists like I.Usas out of the big picture; I.Usas ironic "magic realism" paintings deserves more recognition

Būtu vairāk un radikālāk, liktu četrus, bet līdz tam:

sociālais reālisms jeb fotogrāfija kā sociālo apstākļu reportāža ir diskutabla lieta. Īpaši gadījumos, kad, laikam ejot, par apstākļiem liecina tikai rakstīts (banāls) vārds, bet attēli ir kļuvuši vienkārši par skaistiem portretiem, kuros aplūkot dažādos cilvēku fenotipus. Varbūt sociāli vērtīgāk būtu bijis nevis fotografēt, bet adoptēt tos bērnus..

Social realism or the photography depicting social circumstances is a complicated topic, especially if only a written (banal) word testify to those circumstances after some time passes, whereas the photos themselves have become classic portraits showing different phenotypes. Maybe socially more useful would have been to take adopt those children instead of photographing them..

Naturālas manieres fotogrāfijā ir ļoti piņķerīgi savienot konceptuālo pamatojumu ar reāli attēlos skatāmo. Parasti pietiek ar vienkārši bildi. Arī šajā gadījumā fotogrāfiski glīti attēli mazāk rezonē ar tēmu, vairāk vienkārši ir kā piemineklis aizejošajam laikmetam jeb "normālās sabiedrības" stigmatizācijas priekam.

It requires a master to combine the concept and obviousness of the photography of natural manner. Usually photography alone is sufficient. As in this case where nice photographic pictures are sort of monument for the passing era of "normal society's" stigmatization craze instead of reflecting on the stated subject matter.

ja tas viss būtu nevis uzgleznots, bet izausts un izšūts, tā būtu tīra "sieviešu māksla". Daudz dažādas patstāvīgi attīstāmas, bet izstādē ne pārāk attīstītas tēmas (reliģija, sievietība, ģimene, nacionālā un vienkārši identitāte, valoda, glezniecības ars) vienkopus, kas atstāj "ēd-lūdzies-mīli" tipa lubenīgu pēcgaršu.

It could be pure 'women art' if the artist would have chosen to weave and embroider her 'paintings'. Numerous threads that could have been developed self-sufficiently (like religion, womanhood, family matters, (national)identity, language, craftmanship of painting etc.) here are put all together leaving the pulpy 'eat-pray-love' type of aftertaste.

Viens no autoriem, kura darbus skatoties, kļūst ļoti žēl, ka Latvijas mākslas pasaule ir tik maziņa, jo šis, lūk, ir tas retais gadījums, kam par labu nāktu idejas radikalizējoša, pakausī elpojoša vide.

Putrāms is one of rare authors whose works suffer from narrowness of local art world, his art would definitely gain if the dynamics of environment would push for more radical output.

If A.Vilipson's bawdiness embodied in graphic medium or sculpture appears to be within good taste, then his paintings - if we want to put it politely - are kitsch. or shit more likely

• Mūsdienu sabiedrībā ķermeņa apmatojums un tā kontrole kļuvusi par fetišu. Izstādes uzdotais jautājums ir krietni skaļāks par pašiem darbiem. Tie seko (un atpaliek no), piem., Ausmas Šmites biomorfo dīvaiņu attēliem.
• Contemporary society has made body hair and its control into a fetish. The question posed by the artist is louder than the works themselves. They follow (and trail), for example, Ausma Šmite’s images of biomorphous misfits.

• Atsauce uz mākslas izmantošanu zinātniskiem mērķiem – floras un faunas daudzveidības ilustrēšanu. Ekspozīcija, turklāt, piedāvā nosacītu barības ķēdes atainojumu. Jēga mitinās ekspozīcijas kopumā, ne atsevišķos darbos.
• This is harkening back to the use of art for scientific goals – illustrating the variety of flora and fauna. Furthermore, the exposition, provides a stylised reflection of a food chain. The works signify as a whole, not as separate entities.

• Pēc lielizstādes Arsenālā ir mokoši uz viņa darbiem skatīties. Šī kvaziabstrakcija mūsdienās spēj apzīmēt vien biroja telpas un $$$. (Un pati savu norietu.)
• Since the mega-show at Arsenāls it has become impossible to behold his works. These days this quasi-abstraction fails to signify anything but office space and $$$. (And its own demise.)

• Biological and physiological subject matter always draws attention as it usually balances on the edge of being unplesant. Promising technical abilities but not sure if chosen medium or the venue is the best pick

• 17.gs. nīderlandieši lepotos ar Ilzi Orinsku. Reālistiska glezniecība ar vieglu dekorativitātes piesitienu. Pāris diskutablas, bet lielākā daļa lieliskas elēģiskas ainiņas, kuras nostrādā tieši kā kopums.
• 17th century Dutch artists would be proud of Ilze Orinska. Realist painting with slight touch of ornametalism. Wonderful elegiac sights with only few minor slips of feebleness. Paintings look perfect together as a set.

• Varbūt vide ne pati piemērotākā, varbūt atsevišķi darbi prasītos autora stāstu, bet kopumā pamatīga glezniecība.
• Maybe the venue is not the most suitable one, maybe it would be nice to get author's commentary on some of the works, but nevertheless this is a solid art at it's best
