They were a Christian sect who lived together as a community, bringing together various Eastern and exotic musical disciplines to inform their musical meditations, as documented on The Christ Tree, an album originally released back in 1975.. In addition to more recognisable American and European folk templates, you can hear Balinese chant music, Indian raga and African rhythms at work in this album, with lyrics tapping directly into the community's religious concerns, even including musical interpretations of psalms.
