SONGS IN THE KEY OF Z is writer and radio broadcaster Irwin Chusid's investigation of outsider music, an art most often defined by its lack of artistry. Though they merely scratch the surface of this ever-expanding form, Chusid's explorations uncover performers like the former Miss St. Louis, Lucia Pamela, a multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter who claimed to have visited and made a record on the moon; the late Wesley Willis, a frequently institutionalized Chicago street musician; and the Legendary Stardust Cowboy (real name Norman Carl Odam), who inspired David Bowie's doomed rock-star character Ziggy Stardust.
