"This new mixup for 2007 is called The Dharma Bums. The title is taken from a book by Jack Kerouac which covers his exploration of Buddhism and the search for Truth. With this new mix I wanted to expand on the ethno-ambient feel of one of my other mixes, Tea Time at Brian Eno's House. The Dharma Bums was also greatly inspired by the amazing field recordings done by The Quiet American and the superb ethno-ambient music of Loren Nerell . My hope was to create a Pan-Asian soundworld using music inspired by, or artists from the Middle East, India and Indonesia. -- http://hydrogencafe.blogspot.com/

deaf center - pale ravine

‘Pale Ravine’ is an album which again manages to blend elements of classical music with electronic music, yet there is something decidedly different which sets it apart from the competition. While there are elements that can be compared with contemporaries such as Max Richter, Marsen Jules or Ryan Teague – Deaf Center is altogether more other-worldly, darker and ultimately very rewarding.

drēgns un samirkuši sapņains ir šis stāsts

steve roach/david hudson/sarah hopkins - australia: sound of the earth

atmosphere for dreaming
origin

Roach's second trip to Australia was documented by yet another breakthrough release that was celebrated in Australia with high critical regard. David Hudson's didgeridoo and cellist Sarah Hopkins are featured in this sonic travelogue down under. "It is somewhat ironic that one of the best Western-Aboriginal fusions has been the work of the highly regarded American ambient musician, Steve Roach."

Heavy and equal elements of ambient, dub, idm, and techno are present in Recue's sound. Rhythms trip around and over strong melodies that together carry a persistent groove along currents of bass and ragged arpeggios. Sublime and sombre introspective moments are here as well - such as the drowned bass of 'Silversands', the melodic ambience of 'Between Stations', and the enamoring guest-vocals of Jobie on the lush 'Come away with me'.

Stars of the Lid - Low Level (Listening)+, Part 2 [192kbps, 12mb]
Stars of the Lid - Anchor States, Part 3 [192kbps, 9mb]

SotL utilized field recordings of McCafferty in his studio while he painted the cover for this album, which he did while listening to the music of previous SotL releases.

"The merging of color and sound is something we've thought about quite often. Why should the visual artist be confined to the packaging while the "musician" is in charge of the rest - especially when both dimensions may reflect back into each other. We wanted to craft a sound environment that is both true to Jon's painting as well as the larger New York context which envelopes his work." Per Aspera Ad Astra

Stars of the Lid
Info

Where did the concept of a "rock guitar duo" come from?
"This question makes no sense. We do like guitars because they can sound not like guitars."

Is there an underlying transcendental motif in your music?
"No. We do hope to transcend what we don't like - especially the music scene in Austin."

Robert Rich & Steve Roach - Silk Ridge [192kbps, 8mb]

Soma is "...the principle of bliss...the essence, in sense-objects and sense-experiences, in the plants and growths of the earth-nature. The mystic Soma-plant symbolizes that element behind all sense-activities and their enjoyments which yields the divine essence." SoMA, the album, extends and deepens the creative vistas opened by ROBERT RICH and STEVE ROACH in their first full collaboration, Strata (Hearts of Space HS11019; 1990). But where Strata metaphorically explored layers of the psyche as subterranean geology, SoMA celebrates and supports creative activity in the biological realm above ground... vairāk

Solar Fields - 6.7 [256kbps, 8mb]
Solar Fields - Floating Channels [256kbps, 14mb]

Solar Fields is Magnus Birgersson from Gothenburg Sweden. With a past experience enriched by electronic collaborations Solar Fields is building a vivid sound universe, melting diverse ambient styles into psytrance or industrial drones. He has a global vision of ambient, at times atmospheric and psychedelic, at others rhythmic and groovy. Through his music Solar Fields cultivates paradox and amplifies contrasts between warmth and coldness, softness and tension, wide spaces and introspection. Still, with his unique mastery of sound climates, unity stands.

es tikai varu piebilst, ka šī mūzika man sniedz ārkārtīgu plašuma un dziļuma sajūtu reizē un tur mīt īpaši fantāziju pieskārieni. ar to arī viss ir pateikts.
