Caché
Īstenībā man ļoti reti gadās, kad es neiebraucu kādā filmā. Bet šoreiz tā gadījās. Pirmais ko es darīju pēc Hanekes Caché noskatīšanās bija spoileru meklējums. Lūk šis man likās vissakarīgākais:
To understand the film, you must see it as an allegory for current times.

This film is about how the West is terrorized by the Middle East.

The older generations, from East and West, have tortured each other. They carry this baggage about the past ... injustices and pain. Then videotapes intrude, disturb and terrorize the Westerners. Are the tapes symbolic of the news on TV? Tapes from Osama bin Laden? Maybe simply all the above (the media). The leader of the West (George!) wants to protect his family, and he suspects who did it. He confronts the Middle Eastern man (Majid) and threatens him ... but it's an act that George lies about and is ashamed of. Unfortunately it's all caught on tape (think Abu Ghraib). There are small lies here and there, but it's to protect his family. George digs a deeper hole for himself with his lies. Does his wife trust him anymore? His rationale for lying is to her to protect her (think of the secrecy of the current US government - we need it to fight terrorist), but the audience can tell it's to hide the bad behavior of his past and present.

In the end George sends the Algerian father and son to prison for crimes they did not commit. Majid can't take it any longer and commits suicide in front of George (suicide bomber? Iraq dissolving into civil war?). Instead of calling the police or an ambulance, George hangs out downtown, doesn't care about Majid, eventually going home (just like the US, after its invasion of Iraq, it wants to withdraw, leaving Iraq in a state of chaos).

Finally Majid's son confronts George, but the leader of the west doesn't care, doesn't take responsibility for any of his actions. "Is this the conscience of a guilty man?" asks Majid's son.

In light of the allegory, the end is crystal clear. The director is an optimist: two sons meet and smile ... perhaps the next generations can mend all the injuries between the West and the Middle East?

Vajadzēs šo filmu noskatīties vēlreiz.
