"I've been naughty." She said in a seductive voice, taking steps closer. She put her hands on his chest, her blue eyes sparkled looking into his. She leaned in and whispered in his ear "I've been VERY naughty.." And kissed his neck.
It was 6, time to get out of the house soon. Devin looked at himself in the mirror, he didn't want to go, dinner's with shallow people were not his thing, but his girlfriend was all over it. They were her friends, they were nice and special. They were shallow people that needed a kick back into reality.
Devin was a succesful man, he had a great carrer, great life, but sometimes he felt like he didn't belong. He was dating a woman named Ellie, she was young, beautiful Long black hair, dark eyes, a beautiful face and a killer body. Any man would kill to get her, but her personality, it could use more. She was the type of girl who would trade her grandmother for a new diamond ring, but something made Devin stick to her. The hot sex, the feeling of having someone next to him.
She worked for her family, well, she had a job title but never did anything, just grabbed her paycheck and spent it on dresses and shoes. Devin didn't seem to have anything in common with her, yet they were the happy couple.
Ellie soon came out of the bathroom, dressed in the shortest red dress she had, looking like she belonged in the Red Light District instead of a five star restaurant, he gave her a kiss on the cheek and both left. He couldn't help but stare at her, she was short, but her high heels put her high enough for her to look in Devin's eyes without having to turn her head so much, she laughed and said "Be good and we can have fun on our way home."
I put on my black cocktail dress, "Fuck this." I said to myself and went to the kitchen. "Is this ok?" I asked. "Fuck yeah." Joe said.
My story wasn't so different, I was with a guy, who I really didn't need to be with.
I met Joe in a fund raiser, he was nice and cute and we started seeing each other, couple of months later I was pulled in deep in his life and couldn't get out. I didn't like hanging out with his friends, they were snobs. Rich kids that got everything that they ever wanted. I had to work had to get where I am.
I worked in an Art Gallery, my dream job. Joe worked for his father, I really didn't understand what his job excatly was, nor did I care. I was planning on ending things.
We arrived in the restaurant and the waited showed us to our seats, we were the last ones to arrive. There sat, Joe's college friend David, who was even worse than Joe, he often would brag about his amazing life and how amazing he is and so on, his childish, spoiled fiancee Melanie, Melanies friend Ellie, who was just as much spoiled, with her boyfriend Devin, who I didn't know too well, but he didn't seem to be so bad as the rest of them and us.
We sat down and they chatted away, the waiter came over to take our orders and of course the girls just ordered salad, "Fuck those bitches, I dragged myself here, I will get a meal." I thought to myself. I ordered a steak, I was not paying attention to every single calorie I ate, and meat is meat, meat is life, meat is amazing, no way I will say no to it.
As the dinner went on, my eyes shifted around, looking at people at tables next to ours. My eyes met Devins and there I saw it, that look that I had. The scream of desperation, boredom and loneliness. He saw it too. We quickly broke contact and I poked Joe's arm.
"Can we go?"
"So soon?"
"Uhhh... Please?"
"Fine."
We left.
A week later, we had to go to a charity event. The company from dinner was also there. I stood by the bar, sipping whiskey and looking at people. I hated them, all of them, selfish bastards that now thought they were kings of the world for giving some money to people in need.
"Sonya, right?" I heard a voice behind me. I turned around and saw Devin.
"Yeah."
"Hey, enjoying this... fiasco?"
"Haha, very. Not your type of crowd?"
"Not really."
We started to talk, it was the type of talks where you could open up about everything. We both hated the crowd, yet didn't leave. We talked about our dreams and hopes, and just got along very well. There was this instant connection we both felt.
We exchanged phone numbers, just in case we need to vent about the snobs.
Our messaging grew bigger and bigger every day, I got to know him better than any guy I ever dated, he was special, yet he was stuck with Ellie and I was stuck with Joe.
S *Hey, Devin. Listen, I remember how you told me that you wrote some kick ass poetry, mind sharing some?*
D *For what?*
S *My friend works for a big publisher and she mentioned that they are in the works of doing a book with new writers and their work. I thought they would love yours.*
D *Uh, I don't know.*
S *C'mon. Come up with a name and send it, what's the worst that could happen?*
He sent me a couple of his work, I loved it. I sent it to my friend and in a couple of days she called and said. "I don't know where you found him, but he's great. My boss is over the roof about him. You need to make him sign with us."
"I'll try."
"You better. If I come back with empty hands I can kiss my job goodbye, so charm him!"
S *Can you meet me for a drink later tonight? I need to talk to you.*
D *Sure, name the place.*
I went to the bar where we agreed to meet, I sat down by a table and drank my whiskey, I was wearing black jeans and a black sweater, maybe I should of put on something sexy, so he couldn't say no. Hmmmm. I saw him arrive, we chatted a bit and I said.
"Ok, I'm not gonna talk around. Remember how I sent your work to my friend? Well her bosses love you and want to sign you, they are offering you a great deal."
"Sonya, thanks, but I'm not sure."
"Why? Because Ellie said that writers don't make enough? Fuck her. She's a spoiled bitch. You have a chance to follow your dream, don't turn it down. And your work is amazing, I think people should be able to read it."
In the end he agreed. We walked out the bar and he grabbed my arm "You really think that I'm that good?"
"Better than good. You're great, amazing. You have a gift."
I stared into in his eyes, and next thing I know, our lips crash together and we let into this amazing kiss. He pushed me against the wall, his hands on my hips, our tongues swirling around each other, I literally got swooped off my feet.
In a moment, he pulled away "We can't."
"I know."
But our lips crashed together, for minutes, the world around us did not exist,it was just us.
The next day, I broke it off with Joe, he made a scene, but I really didn't care. I took the few things I had at his place and went on.
I wanted to call Devin, but I was scared.
Few weeks later...
I was walking down the street and saw a familiar face in the crowd.
"Devin!" I shouted. He waved and we hugged. We went into a little coffee shop and talked.
"You got published." I said sipping my coffee.
"I know. I have fans, it's crazy."
"I'm so happy for you."
"Well, if it wasn't for you I wouldn't be where I am, so I have to thank you. How you've been?"
"Busy, with work."
"How's Joe?"
"I wouldn't know, we broke up a couple of weeks ago."
"Because of..."
"No, well a bit. I realized I didn't want to waste my time with someone who I had nothing in common with. How's Elie?"
"Yeah, we broke up too. She didn't take it well. She cursed me and said I will fail at my new carrer choice. Well, jokes on her, because I am doing great."
"That's good."
"Hey, I want to take you out for dinner. Tonight. Are you free?"
"Of course."
We met in a small Italian restaurant. I wore a black dress, showing enough cleavage to make people on the street give me more than one look.
