    Drents Archive

In 2010 Zecc Architects was selected through a European tender for the expansion and renovation of the Drents Archive in Assen. Two years later Zecc delivers its first public building: The monument is quite been dusted, completely reorganized and equipped with a brand new entrance at the canal. The reason for the plan is a new way of giving access to archival material. In the Drents Archive 3.0, you no longer find containers filled with old cards with family trees, but now you can navigate through digital photos, old maps and film material. You can search by time and place or even leave text messages with the found material to bring old stories back to life. An important goal is making the archive data accessible to a broad audience: young and old, for large groups, for ?archive snackers and deep diggers?. With its seamless shapes, transparency and inviting staircase it seduces the visitor to discover the history. It optimistically preludes the future and connects the present with the rich past of Drenthe...

    Makr Shakr

As any cocktail connoisseur knows, mixology is a precise science, and everyone has their own way of customizing their favorite drink. Makr Shakr was an installation at this year?s Google I/O conference that used robotic barmen to mix drinks in approximately one googol (that?s 10 to the power of 100) different crowd-sourced combinations. Developed by the MIT Senseable City Lab in collaboration with the Coca-Cola Company and Bacardi Rum, the project featured an identity, web application and data visualization designed by Pentagram?s Eddie Opara and team.

    Håndværk

Håndværk stands for handmade, handcrafted, artisanal and craftsmanship. It looks for the best materials around the world, promoting its New York origin and working tirelessly to offer the best quality garments. The branding reflects Håndværk's nature: elegant simplicity. Clean lines and a simple typographic treatment based on minimal scandinavian and japanese aesthetics. The symbol itself is an abstraction of the Håndværk logo, using its most significant element ? the ring above the letter A ? thus coinciding with the brand?s principles of editing everything to their very core. Håndværk?s products, simple in their aesthetic nature, use only the best quality materials, mostly perceived through touch. We have communicated this through a graphic language that is based on minimal aesthetics, predominantly white. Their principle of simplicity and upmost quality is always reflected in all supporting materials, from their packaging to the language used for their texts. Through simple yet elegant finishes, such as embossing, we achieve to communicate key brand values of simplicity, luxury, quality and truthfulness ? it?s about communicating in a subtle manner; just like these values, it?s about understatement through its tactile principle. ?A functionality that blends with its aesthetics. Understated luxury essentials.

    Caricature Project for Free Range

Lee Howell: Caricature Project Leading up to the end of a final year studying a BA in Professional Photography, I thought it would be a good idea to create caricatures of my fellow students and lecturers at Edinburgh College. This concept also suitably fitted in with our plans to advertise the graduate exhibition at Free Range, the Old Truman Brewery, Mill lane, London, E1. Hense the 'Trainspotting theme' given to the final composite piece. www.leehowellphotography.com

    Disney Typefaces

The most magical typeface on earth? Perhaps. Cina Associates collaborated with Disney to create nine custom typefaces. We were tasked to deliver a typeface family that could represent Disney's rich history, but also look toward its future. Above all, the typefaces needed to be legible and appealing to children, but also sophisticated enough for adults. The primary goal was to develop a design that worked well with Disney's new website and could also translate into a variety of offline applications. No easy task! We took no shortcuts to create a typeface whose personality is, well, very Disney! Working with them was one of the best experiences we have ever had, a real dream come true!

    Where the Spirit

Where the Spirit is a newly completed 44 page wordless graphic narrative. The following is the forward from the book: Both of my children came out of dire situations in two far-away corners of the world. Due to the complexities and devastation of poverty, they had somehow been deemed expendable; they were treated as throw-away kids. Over the last 20+ years, I?ve been witness to a mysterious interweaving between their nearly tragic origins and their maturation into individuals with profound creative abilities. As far away as the past may seem, its brokenness has always pulled at them, has always tried to claim them. But I've seen them begin to claim the past instead. I've seen them use music, craft, image, and story to pick up the broken pieces of their origins and put them back together in ways that are at once haunting and redemptive, achingly raw and startlingly new. Where the Spirit is a symbolic narrative that tries to express the essence of the story they share with so many. The book tells the story of a Scarecrow who finds itself outcast to a foreign environment, useless and unneeded, brooding on an obsolete telephone pole. When a spirit-wind invades the scene, it tugs at the Scarecrow's scarf, inviting the Scarecrow to come explore a reality beyond its marooned uselessness. But letting go of old ways and old lies is hard to do. The Scarecrow hangs on as long as it can. In my work I?ve always been inspired by motion. In Where the Spirit, motion is symbolic of a life set free. The Scarecrow?s dance with the wild, spirit-wind is the formation of a new identity. An identity shaped by mystery, and wonder, and risk. An identity formed by truth. When the Scarecrow touches ground again, it tips its hat: a wink of ironic grace to a still-blind world, a moment of Sabbath after a bout of new creation, and a shy genuflection of thanks to the mysterious giver of long-hidden gifts. Where the Spirit is an ode to all the secret virtuosos who sit stranded on the world's garbage heaps or sleep starving in its rubble. It is a fight song for anyone who feels cast away or exiled. It is a prayer for the world's untapped magic to be spared, discovered, and unleashed. The book expresses the longing I hold for my children, my students, my community, and myself: to let go of disposable culture, to say no to disposable life, and to let ourselves get swept up in the danger and grace and mystery of a spirit-wind. Crebs - Creative & Tech jobs
