One to hear on the grapevine that a light bulb will soon be changed.. confirm the rumour .. discover the light bulb being changed had lasted a record time .. decide whether a media event is in order to celebrate ..  calculate the number of people the bulb has shone on (including dignitaries, by name) .. discover that the replacement will last longer / cost less .. research thistory of light bulbs and prepare a summary .. arrange a “Light bulbs through the Years” exhibition ..prepare a statistical analysis of the number of workers affected by the change .. write a news release, two features and update fact sheet .. compile a media list .. suggest using a VNR or B-roll to reach broadcast media worldwide .. schedule a media conference and/or media tour .. write a pitch letter .. make follow-up telephone calls .. prepare press kits .. develop comprehensive Q&A .. handle enquiries after the pre release goes out .. handle arrangements for travel to and from events .. rehearse speakers .. test the replacement bulb before the media arrive .. get a spare bulb in case .. hold the chair for the maintenance man who actually changes the bulb .. write a “home town” news release on the maintenance worker .. mail press kits to reports who missed the event .. prepare report for top management explaining who attended and what the event accomplished .. study how a similar event could be handled more efficiently in the future.
